Specific Job Responsibilities
Maintain and update the design definition for implemented and approved tool designs. Provide engineering support to the Production Tooling organization to fabricate and maintain the tools. Work with Pantex Operations to ensure tools and processes are safe, reliable and perform the desired function efficiently. Review repair and preventive maintenance history, and coordinate with the tool design engineer to revise the tool as necessary to address any functional or reliability issues.
Maintain the tooling design features documented in the safety basis by working with the safety basis document custodian and the tool design engineer. Review safety basis change packages to ensure functional requirements are appropriately documented and flowed down into tool design definition and process documents. Manage new or changing requirements, and maintain the safety basis control identification database for tool controls. Support the implementation of new processes during hazard analysis reviews to ensure the proposed controls are valid and concur with similar established controls.
Perform control flow-down validations/audits of design packages to ensure proper flow down from the DSA is met. These validations may be done as management self-assessments, contractor readiness assessments or randomly to validate our own internal process.
Conducts analysis of Special Tooling requirements per DOE Order 426.2 (personnel selection, qualification and training). Verify and facilitate authorization basis compliance in accordance with DSR / TSR development, implementation, and conduct of operations, management self- assessments, readiness assessments, and operational readiness reviews. Provide nuclear safety analyst support in the development of special tooling functional requirements for the mitigation of regarded accident / hazard analyses.
The employee primarily performs work requiring advanced knowledge. The advanced knowledge must be in a field of science or learning; and the advanced knowledge must be customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction. Advanced knowledge is generally used to analyze, interpret and make deductions from varying facts or circumstances.
Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required
The Tooling System Engineer is responsible for tool designs and engineering support for the tooling hardware already implemented in an approved operation. The Tooling System Engineer will maintain and coordinate engineering activities necessary to maintain the tool designs and ensure the hardware support efficient and safe operations. This function includes coordination of tools and tool revisions with procedures prepared and maintained by Product and Manufacturing Engineering, and maintenance of the flow down of tooling functional requirements from the safety basis prepared and maintained by Safety Analysis Engineering. In addition, the Tooling System Engineer will work with Pantex Operations to ensure tools are fabricated and maintained in a condition that meets the design definition, and that the tools continue to function reliably.
Education & Relevant Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or holds a Texas Professional Engineering License (PE), combined with at least 6-9 years experience related to mechanical design/analysis or systems engineering. Please reference CNS Pantex Technical/Professional Individual Contributor Level Chart.
Additional experience with safety basis and documented safety analysis is preferred.
The job level will be determined based upon relevant education and experience of the selected candidate.
AND
The applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Bachelors in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative).
NOTE: The job related and nuclear experience requirements noted above are not a prerequisite for Pantex employment. These experience requirements can be satisfied based on Pantex experience obtained following employment. In the interim, until experience requirements are met, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)
