Lead Medical Support Assistant

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA) provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across operating room scheduling coordinator for the Surgical Service, specialties, and/or care in the community resources. Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines. Expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinates with the patient care team to review operating room appointment availability (utilization) to ensure that operating room schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the surgical service and adjusts as necessary. MSAs at this level develop and/or maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies (e.g., assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA medical facilities; prepare correspondence to notify patients of normal lab results; manage a system for follow-up care such as consults, tests, etc. Incumbent provides orientation to the professional staff on administrative procedures and logistical factors associated with health care delivery. Incumbent will monitor and make work assignments, provide input on performance, and resolve daily workplace issues to maintain efficient operating room workflow. As the backup ADPAC Application Coordinator, the incumbent helps the lead ADPAC with program/administrative responsibilities for the management, coordination, evaluation, and control of the Surgical Service Data Management and the Medical Center Automated Data processing program. The incumbent will provide effective support to the other clinical services and a variety of administrative support functions to the Medical Center. The duties of the Lead MSA are critical in the overall functioning of the Surgical Service in identifying issues or problems and processing a wide variety of transactions and in the coordination of the multiple and complex duties inherit in administrative/program management of the Operating Room. Candidates must have Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR one year of education above high school; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable Preferred
Experience:
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology 1 year of VA Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. Grade Requirement:
One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. KSA Requirement:
At this grade level all the following knowledge, skills, and abilities must be demonstrated a. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. b. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. c. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. d. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. e. Ability to provide staff development and training. f. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. Assignment:
The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA assignments and workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including operating room flow processes related to access to care across multiple specialties, and/or community resources. Assignments at this level include but are not limited to:
ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; and acting as a liaison among Surgical staff, patients, and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
