Nursing Assistant

Performs daily care for residents including but not limited to:
activities of daily living, dressing, hygiene care, nail care, toileting, restorative programs, assistance with feeding, decluttering, end-of-life care, and post-mortem care. Demonstrates a caring, compassionate, and respectful attitude. Verbalizes and demonstrates understanding of the long sheet and importance of daily utilization of the form. Use appropriate customer service guidelines as listed in the orientation check-off packet. Including, but not limited to CLC Veteran-Centered Care, resident preferences and Cultural Transformation. Working knowledge of shower/tub room processes. Understands resident preferences and respect/dignity in implementing those preferences. Understanding of each neighborhood on unit, processes, and residents. Proper process of entering and exiting rooms. Assist other staff as necessary to ensure proper care. Understanding and use of nurse call system, answering alarm/phone appropriately, responding promptly to resident situation. Understanding of the Wanderguard system process, policy, and prompt response to alarm. Understands, participates, and ensures completion of Purposeful Rounding in assigned neighborhood to ensure resident safety. Understands that the CLC is a restraint- free environment. Verbalize and understand what is considered a restraint. Understands, verbalizes, adheres to, and documents Fall Prevention guidelines, interventions , policies, and protocols. Demonstrates understanding regarding the pain scale, asking residents about their pain level, performing non-pharmacological measures to alleviate pain. Reports pain level to medication nurse and notifies med nurse if pain level does not improve. Demonstrates proper use of safety and lift equipment. Ensures the safety of residents and staff. Participates as assigned in fire safety, emergent needs , and environmental safety as described in orientation validation paperwork. Verbalizes and demonstrates understanding of skin breakdown, pressure injury preventative measures, and notifying licensed staff of new/worsening areas of redness, skin breakdown, and concerns. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education or Training. One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. English Language Proficiency. Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 and below. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below; OR Education:
Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. 2. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. 3. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. References:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
